Annual report by Winnes. A journey with three Barmen missionaries to Tungfo where no Christians were left, then to Lilong. On the way they passed Tenfuk's home town, where a small number of Christians met them (Ha tschun). Plans to build a house in Ha tschun and give up Pukak, or build on Lilong. After two years of separation, the congregation still survives without losses. Also a report on the work in Hongkong.

Winnes on the "tragically story of the German Mission House" at Hongkong. It seems that serious disagreements between the missionaries of the Basel and Barmen Missions on the one side and of the Berlin Mission on the other (Lobscheid) forced them to give up the idea of a "German Mission" and the house was sold to the British Government. See also No. 3.

Winnes states the names of seven newly baptized Chinese.

Here Winnes mentions again the emigration of Chinese labourers to the West Indies and describes the practices of a certain firm in recruiting labourers. He compares this with slave trade (p. 3-7). On p. 8 he writes on the murder of 9 Christian Chinese he knew, who were murdered by Dyak people in Borneo. For emigration of Chinese see also Nos. 13+14. 1860, Nos. 2, 13, 14.

Winnes now in Lilong (Oct. 1859). He leaves the congregation at Hongkong in the care of Li Chin kau. He wrote a pamphlet (with Tai) on the life of Jesus (p. 3).

Winnes reports the baptism of 12 people at Hongkong, several of them coming from Sau ki wan from the Won (Wong) clan.

A long report on the emigration of Chinese families to British colonies, esp. Hakka Christians of Winnes' congregation. See also A-1.4, 1862, No. 18, p. 8.

Winnes confirms Martig's arrival and writes again on the emigration of several Christians to the West Indies (Cuba, Guyana). See also No. 7 and No. 6, 1859. 1862, No. 21.

Winnes in Lilong reports the baptism of 9 persons. He also complains of Tai Wung Kong, who stayed with Hamberg and Lechler (as a teacher), has finally left the Christian congregation ("with him we have lost the man of the Chinese Union", No. 4). He mentions the Tai ping "insurgents" making progress in the N. Hung Jen (=Hung Yin), formerly with Hamberg, has also joined the insurgents in Nanking and may have some influence. The war has ended with the treaty of Tientsin and Winnes hopes life will become quieter now.

In his annual report Winnes again mentions the emigration of members of his congregation. Also Tai, formerly Lechler's language teacher, has left them together with all the Christians of Ha Tschun. P. 9: Winnes' co worker Lil tschin kau receives a letter from Hung Yin, the Tai ping wan's cousin to come and join him. Winnes voices the opinion on the Tai ping movement. See also A-1.3. 1854,10. On the possibility of getting a house in Hongkong on a 99 year lease base. Ka yin tschu with Tschong lok (with a number of Christians under the mission worker Tshong hin) has been conquered by rebels.
