Hamberg suggests that missionaries ought to have a centre station from where to do the work and travel, mainly in the province of Kwangtun.

Hamberg reports the baptism of Yitkhiam, a relative of the new emperor of Nanking. He also talks of a translation of Fung's (=Hung's) messages and asks the committee for advice concerning the "insurgents". For Yitkhiam= Hung Yin (Fung, Hung Sen) see also A- 1.2 1853, 34, 45, 47. A-1.3 1854, 10, 18, 22, 23; 1857, 20. A-1.4 1858, 7+8, 16; 1860, 14; 1881, 7. On p. 3 he tells of the persecution of some of the Christians in Tschong hang kang.

Hamberg reports on the "insurgents" planning to march on Peking at the end of winter.

Hamberg now in Pukak reports on the journey from Hongkong to Pukak. Lechler and Winnes remain in nearby Tungfo, all three of them now concentrating on the Hakka people.

Hamberg in Tungfo defends himself against the committee, which accused him of not travelling to the inland with other tribes. Also some thoughts on the possibilities of missionaries' wives in China. Hamberg from Tungfo mentions a proclamation of the mandarins which made them give up their plan to settle in Tam Shui

Hamberg from Hongkong, where the Tai ping wan's cousin stays with him to study the Christian faith as a newly baptized Christian. (Li tschin kau, see also A-1.19, No. 38)

Hamberg describes land and people around Hongkong. On p. 3 he mentions Chinese emigrating to California, Java, Siam, Borneo, Latin America, the West Indies etc. See also A-1.0

Hamberg describes Guetzlaff and his methods of evangelising. He also talks of plans for the Barmen Mission to take over the Western part of the Province of Canton, while the BM s to take over the Eastern part.
