The society was founded as a "Missionsverein für Kamerun” (Missionary society for Cameroon) on March 25, 1887 based in Stuttgart. The main idea behind the foundation was not colonial enthusiasm, but the worry for the Basel Mission, which was faced with a heavy financial burden when the Cameroon mission was taken over: the annual extra expenditure was estimated at RM 40,000. For that one the society wanted to win new circles. In 1900, the club was renamed in "Verein für die evangelische Mission in Kamerun " (Society for the Evangelical Mission in Cameroon) and registered at the District Court of Stuttgart. The club always understood itself as a relief club for the Basel Mission. From 1911, the association sent six delegates to home community representation of the Basel Mission. In 1911 was added to the name "und Nordtogo" (and „Northern Togo“). On 9 April 1948 the general meeting decided the dissolution of the association.
