They kept most of the time at home at Akropong, repairing and strengthening the house (new beams cut in the forest and placed to strengthen the platform), not visiting the villages since the discontent against the Governor was great and any manifestation of it would be laid at the door of Riis. Akropong is gradually depopulated. A family, which haoped that their son would succeed Ado Dankwa, is noisy and boisterous and therefore increases the followers of Adum (p 3). Fetishpicture towards Larteh (p 3 f). Africans remain kind and friendly to missionaries in spite of civil quarrels and the well-known opposition of the Governor against Riis (p 4). Civil war with bloodshed in Adum. Sent messengers to Akropong, that the missionary was guilty, that he could not come to Akropong. Riis in order to remove all suspicion, has gone to Ussu for a few weeks. The reason for the civil war: Ado Dankwa committed suicide by taking poison. Riis had started a little school with four boys, hopes to be able to expand it when he goes back. Governor Mörck died on the 19th March. The Government is correct towards Riis, but he fears that they really do not want missionary work.
