Ado Dankwa, the old duke, feared that his son would suffer. Some time ago, when a notable Larteh man died, the corpse had knocked against Ado Dankwa's son, but Ado Dankwa then had prevented the death of his son. Now that Adum reigned, Ado Dankwa feared for the boy. A Danish and an English soldier came to bring him into safety, but Adum and his people intercepted them and killed the boy. Adum was imprisoned for this and they had to pay a heavy fine. Them was also trouble between the Akropong and Larteh people, the Larteh people spoiling the palmwine of the Akro people, quarrels broke out and several people were wounded with a cutlass. Riis and the others treated them. The successful treatment increased the confidence of the Africans in their medical ability. The Governor is still hostile since there seemed to be an overdraft of good on the credit of the missionaries, he ordered that no good should be given to them. The kind administrator of the stores secretly provided them with some goods, and an English merchant kindly gave credit. They kept most of the time at home at Akropong, repairing and strengthening the house (new beams cut in the forest and placed to strengthen the platform), not visiting the villages since the discontent against the Governor was great and any manifestation of it would be laid at the door of Riis.
