The bulk of the papers date from a land case in 1882 over property claimed by the Rajah but occupied by the Christian community in Chowa. This envelope also contains materials collected in the late 1860s. The envelope contains no information as the resolution of the case in 1882. The papers are probably in the Basel archive because G. Pfleiderer, who was working in Basel in 1882, had played a key role as Basel Mission Agent in the original land purchase. His testimony in 1882 is included in the file.

Includes material taken from English publications and translated into German. -letter from the Government of India to F. Kittel dated 16th Feb. 1899 about orders for copies of Kittel’s prospective Kannada Grammar. At the head of the file is a list of the 13 items which the file contains, but of these two (Nos. 9 and 12) were missing when this paragraph was drafted in Dec. 2005.  P.J.   No. 9 was a folder from c.1875 about the printing of books in India.  No. 12 was a folder with correspondence about Kittel’s Kannada-English dictionary.
