Johannes Haller was a weaving-master who was sent to India in 1851 by the industrial commission in Basel to establish the weaving business there. One of the first manufacturing plants was opened in Mangalore. In 1865 he left the missionary industry to work in the plantation industry. Under Haller the MHG expanded its activities from weaving and also set up dye works. They also supplied the British military and dyed their uniforms in the specially developed colour "Khaki". Gottlob Pfleiderer was a German merchant, and from 1853 he worked for the industrial commission as commercial manager in India. He opened his first shop in Mangalore and expanded the weaving mills there.

Arthur Palliser was a British engineer who had worked in India before the First World War and from 1915 headed the office of the Societé Suisse de Surveillance in London. From this position, Palliser represented the trading interests of Switzerland in general and those of the BHG in particular. Palliser thus also advocated the BHG restitution claim before the British government and mediated various influential acquaintances in London. After the end of the war and the dissolution of the SSS, Palliser continued to be committed to Swiss foreign trade, among other things in the International Commission for the Supply of Grain to Switzerland and in the Swiss Coal Union, advising the Swiss Confederation in legal disputes with the British government.
