Some correspondence from 1913, but mostly wartime correspondence, in English, with British officials, and with other missionaries in India. Much routine correspondence about the whole range of administrative issues which came up because of the war. Much general correspondence about regulating the situation of German-speaking missionaries and the Basel Mission in wartime. The file has an alphabetical register, but it is not clear what categories of letter are filed under the individual key-words.

There are also what are presumably drafts of letters and reports by Graeter, some in English to addressees in India, lists of things to do, and notes of discussions (again with some parts in English).

The focal point seems to have been the office of the administration of the Mission’s district of South Canara. Documents mostly in German, some Kannada and some English. Mostly written by South Canara missionaries, but some communications from further afield. As a source C-5-5.1a.2 could be regarded as throwing interesting light on everyday communications in the Basel Mission, and on relations between individual missionaries. NB however two original documents from the Schott journey of inspection 1881 are also to be found here.
