Condition: good. It covers the period January 1917 to March 1919.. Working language English, excellent and beautiful handwriting with an Indian "touch". This ledger covers all the Basel Mission stations - so presumably was used in the office of the General Treasurer. It appears to be a record of all disbursements or credit/debit transactions within the organisation of the Basel Mission, and includes regular lists of pension payments to former catechists and teachers.

Includes minutes of major conferences; rules generated in Basel but also among the Indian missionaries themselves, on p. 305ff a sermon, presumably given by Inspector Josenhans, in Hubli in December 1851; the full range of minutes generated by the Josenhans inspection; directives received from Basel after Josenhans’ journey; There is no index. A cursory search noticed the text of the 1853 Committee decision about missionaries’ children in India, including the "Prospectus" for the school the Basel Mission proposed to open on the Nilgiris for them (pp. 619-631, 675-7, 763-5); and a circular of the Industry Commission of the Basel Mission dd. 1. Feb. 1854 (pp. 715-726 and signed by Josenhans and Karl Sarasin). Many of the documents in C-5-4.3 will be found in other collections of circulars generated by the Josenhans visit (See C-5-2.20). A cursory glance suggested, however, that the pre-visit documents are, perhaps, more complete here than in other places.
