The pages are not numbered - the block of paper is c. 0.8 cm thick between the covers. Condition: fairly good. The paper is discolouring uniformly. There are no problems with ink. The document has been put into a new modern carton envelope. There are, perhaps, a dozen documents laid into the rear of the file. The first document is dated 1900, the last 1905. The materials here seem to be exclusively concerned with South Canara - texts of letters sent to the South Canara stations, copies of Committee documents concerning the region etc. It was probably a working file of the Mission’s District School Inspector, or possibly the District Chairman.

The paper was originally intended as a marriage register and each page carries a lithographical form for this purpose. The condition is, unfortunately, not good - the ink has spread both over and into most pages, making the text very difficult to read. In 1868 most of the texts are in Malayalam, otherwise this document is in German and in the old German handwriting. From the papers of Martha Goetz (Accession no. 1989/17).
