Miss Beck had been involved in a complicated case in Mangalore in which she had tried to defend the personal rights and freedoms of a girl in one of the Mangalore schools. This had been severely criticised by the other (male!!) missionaries. She had been posted away to Dharwad as a result. And the Inspector’s letter to her commenting on what had happened in Mangalore is filed here under Dharwad, although the matterconcerned Mangalore as much as it did Miss Beck.
