Joseph Josenhans was a member of the Missionary Committee and was involved in the founding decision of the MHG as an inspector, subsequently becoming involved in its establishment as a member of the Trade Commission until 1879. Theophil La Roche-Burckhardt was a member of the Industry Commission. Karl Sarasin was a councillor and a ribbon manufacturer in Basel and was appointed to the first chair of the Industry Commission in 1852, as he had been instrumental in its foundation. He was also involved in the establishment of the Halbbatzenkollekte. In 1865 Sarasin resigned from the Industry Commission and handed over his post to Theodor Sarasin-Bischoff, nephew of Adolf Christ, President of the Basel Mission at the time. When the Industry Commission merged with the Trade Commission, Sarasin-Bischoff joined the MHG-Board of Directors.
