So 1979 zur Frage der Immigranten und der Muslime in der Schweiz. Nach der Auseinandersetzung urn das Antirassismusprogramm des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen suchte er nach Wegen, wie der schweizerische Protestantismus in einheitlichen Aussagen an die Öffentlichkeit treten konnte. Über seine theologische Kommission lancierte er eine Umfrage über das Zusammengehören im SEK. Bei den Missionen stiess dies zunachst auf Widerstand. Aus der Konfrontation erwuchs schliesslich eine Zusammenarbeit.
