"Texts from the mid 19th century"

There is no good indication of the provenance of these texts - indeed there is cause to wonder if they were not put together in Basel - see the impressed stamp on many pages. At least one of the handwritings (pp. 1-35, 167fff) looks very much like a Basel professional hand which turns up in other parts of the archive. Almost foolscap-format hard-cover exercise book, the pages apparently numbered through from 1 to over 380. Condition: fairly good, though in some parts the ink is visible on both sides of the paper, and the binding is somewhat damaged. Excellent "copperplate" German handwriting. In fact the volume consists of a series of long texts in German on religious and cultural themes in beautiful old German handwriting. According to a modern pencil-written index the contents can be translated as: -"Basawa, the secular founder of modern Lingayatism" pp. 1-58 -"Tscham-Basawa, the spiritual founder of Lingayatism", pp. 61-161. -"Allgemeine Bemerkungen" general comments on deities, Hindu sects, the 10 Avatars of Vishnu, etc etc., pp. 167-248 -"Ramatschandra" - report, Hubli, for the first quarter of 1860, pp. 254-67. -Lieder von Heiligen (die der Welt entsagen u. Vischnu (Hari) sich weihen) translation into German of four Kannada poems on saints devoted to Vishnu, printed in Mangalore in 1850, pp.274-297 [the original Kannada publication was presumably part of the Bibliotheca Karnataca]. -Die Religionsinstitute der Kanaresen, von Miss. Kies in Guledgudd,....July 1862 (the religious institutions of the Kannada people) (pp. 304-351). -Der Militäraufstand in Indien. Vortrag v. Wilson (the [1857] military revolt in India, lecture by Wilson) pp. 253-386.
