Description
This volume consists of the following sections: District Conference and Synod (25 documents); District Conference Executive Committee (28 documents); Mangalore (42); Mulki (11); Udipi (20); Karkal (9); Basrur (8); Honowar (15); Mercara/Madikeri (22); Anadapoor (7). NB after a break of some years there is once more a special named section for Anandapur. Selection of interesting documents based on a reading of the captions in the section indeces: The minutes of a District Conference are filed in District Conference & Synod documents 1-12. One major aim was obviously to exchange experiences in preaching to non-christians, so documents 2-9 are reports by missionaries on this from the different station areas. 10-12 are concerned with trying to make sure that Catechists continue with Bible Study after they have left the seminary. There was also discussion of a Kannada pamphlet "by a Brahmin Shastri" called Discussion on Religion. This is referred to in document 25, and a copy of the pamphlet is bound in as document 26. It is recorded in the KTC catalogue of Basel Mission Kannada printed materials as C.I.f.79-8. The minutes of the District Synod are filed in District Conference & Synod documents 13-25. This includes general reports on particular areas (documents 14-20), two of which (Furtado on Jeppu and Bhagyan on Karkal) are by Indian pastors. There is also a very substantial report on matrilineal inheritance ("Bhutala Pandya’s Aleya Santana Law") by Catechist Benjamin Ponau of Ambadi near Udipi, in German translation (28 pp) with an attached document in English (documents 22-3).
