Volume C-1.44 was rebound ca. 2003 and is now in two separate parts, C-1.44 and C-1.44a. This reflects a rather larger body of materials than have been filed in previous years - perhaps as much a 33% more than C-1.36, for example. C-1.44 simply contains documentation generated by a meeting of the Indian General Conference of the Basel Mission in Mangalore in February 1869. It has a single index at the beginning listing the 48 documents it contains, with, in each case, a short caption, in excellent handwriting. C-1.44 and C-1.44a correspond to the structure of filing as we saw it in C-1.36. The separation between C-1.44 and C-1.44a could, perhaps, have been more logical - the correspondence of the General Conference Executive Committee and the General Conference Treasurer [the latter responsible for Basel Mission finances in South India as a whole] is bound in as a section at the beginning of C-1.44a. This is followed by the sections with which we are familiar: Canara District Conference and its individual stations, and the South Mahratta District Conference and its individual stations. The only innovation is that there is now a separate named section for "Mercara", following the new section for Anandapoor. In a pocket in the front end-papers of C-1.44a are two printed documents - - Einige Schulberichte von Missionar Fr.
