"Gebietsakten Indien: Ostbengalen 1845-50 / Letters and Reports from East Bengal, 1845-50."

During this short period of time a semi-independent mission group led by Dr J. Häberlin tried to build up a mission in the Dacca region of East Bengal. This volume contains about 100 MS documents, and under ref. C-1.1.1849.27 a printed report in English: First Report of the East Bengal Missionary Society...." Dacca 1849 c. 35 pp. In a pocket at the end of the volume are two loose documents. One is a summary of documents concerning "Central India" (roughly speaking: the tract between Mumbai and Kolkotta) prepared in Basel, 10 pp., dated 1845 and covering the years 1835-41. The second is a four page Basel MS of the Statutes and Bye-Laws of the Ost-Bengalische Missionsgesellschaft, i.e. the East Bengal Missionary Society, with no dates given. NB this volume traditionally belongs at the beginning of the long series of C-1 volumes on S. India, but obviously concerns another part of India, and is not part of the chronological order of what follows.
