"Widmann to Basel"

1) Sad that the committee is not ready to send more brethren. Need for more workers even to carry in the work begun. 2) Why they had so great expenses. 3) Alexander Clerk is again teaching at the West Indian school. He is not yet proficient enough in Twi to serve as interpreter and the school at Aburi is not yet a proper school. Progress in school: Hope to baptize a few of the bigger boys by Christmas. 4) Why not send a brother from a lower class of the Mission House as teacher to the coast? It would be better than the Cape Coast school masters. 5) They have almost done away with Rum and give cowries instead. Could the native beer not be made to keep longer from becoming sour if they added some hop to it? 6) Embarrassed because no cloth from Basel to pay the labourers with it.
