"Schiedt from Accra"
Item Details
Title:
"Schiedt from Accra"
Description
Bitter letter, full of accusations against Riis: A. Riis does never acknowledge any fault and cannot stand contradictions. He neglects his proper missionary work, even with his houseboys, promises freedom to slaves for the day of their baptism etc. p 4: Conversation with the Governor: The Governor would do everything to prevent Riis from going into the interior again, he did not want such a palaver maker, who made costly presents to his favorites in Europe and Africa and interfered in political affairs. p 5: The house Riis bought at Christiansborg is unsuitable. Why did he buy the plantation? (Abokobi). The trading at Akropong was especially pernicious and took up most of his time and stirred up the envy of the traders on the coast. Very friendly relations to the Methodist missionaries.
