"Riis to Inspector Blumhardt"

Accepts news that king has sent a prescript against Riis permitting the Governor to send Riis home any time, as the will of God: Let his will be done-and his kingdom come (pp 1-2). News of the sicknees and death of Stanger (movingly told assurance to go to Jesus). Disease speeded up by a night’s fight against an invasion of driver ants (pp 2-4). Plan of a journey to Akwamu given up for the mean time. But hope, to go to Akim and from there to Ashanti. Kind messages from the Akim paramount chief. Difficulty in the way: Butrim (=Boateng) an Ashanti prince who left under the last Ashanti king and whose return to Ashanti is under deliberation (pp 4-5). As the Inspector advised them, they keep quiet in the matter of the palaver with the Governor. A well- meaning European tried to appease the Governor who said however: No, either Riis goes or I go. Humanly thinking Riis was sometimes tempted to travel straight to Copenhagen and to lay the matter before the king, but the work at Akropong was more important. They kept most of the time at home at Akropong, repairing and strengthening the house (new beams cut in the forest and placed to strengthen the platform), not visiting the villages since the discontent against the Governor was great and any manifestation of it would be laid at the door of Riis. The man teaching Ashanti has been sick for a long time (pp 5-8).
