"Ofori’s Report on the Kibi District in 1884"
Description
‘Some having been suffered from different disease were swept away by death, whom on their dying bed the grace of the Lord did appear in them’. Attendance at services is again cited as evidence of the liveliness of religion in the community. In Apapam the catechist's house is being built. In Adpeäwa the Christians are still not settled on mission land, and some have lapsed. In Tete after a general lapse people are attempting to be re-accepted, Offerings are made well and Church Tax is generally well paid - those reckoned to be capable and delinquent are brought before the Presbyter. Numbers in the district increased by 76 to 488. There were 59 adult converts in Kibi, 4 in Apapam, 5 in Tete, 6 in Apedwa. One Kibi converts was another sub-chief and relative of Bosompem, by name Salomo Ampofo. He claims to have come to the conclusion that the heathen trappings of his office were vanity, and wished to rule not according to heathen usages but to act according to British law as Joseph Bosoinpem has done, baptised 6th July. An elderly man named Abraham Bosomtwe was also baptised. He had been right through-his life, a 'soul' to the queen mother ‘of Kibi'. But ‘only trouble and pains of heart has been reaped out of it’.
