Title:
"Kromer's Report for the Year 1864"
Description
He reckons to have seen a much greater interest in the content of their teaching evidencing: A visit to Asiakwa where the grey-haired elders asked questions about the meaning of points in his preaching - and the younger elders professed to be largely in agreement (though this was all in connection with their continued pressure for a teacher). The chief of the three Apedua villages has asked for a teacher (though Kromer talks about the people and their loyalty to the fetishes in a way which does not suggest much general pressure there). In the small hamlets they are often now visited by individuals who either want to ask them questions about their religious belief or express their agreement with and liking for sermons which they have heard. In commenting on Kukurantumi Kromer writes that the chief and people have returned to their service of the fetishes, though with no great enthusiasm.
