Description
Part of this report is printed in Heidenbote 1863 pp114f. The Asante embassy was ordered to Accra by the Colonial Government, tried to escape on the way, but was captured. Two Accra men came to Kibi to take a hostage to Accra as surety of the King of Akim’s loyalty, and to inform him that no ammunition would be sent to him unless he sent an elder with the party to collect it. The Okyenhene agreed straight away to both demands, sending a daughter of one of his sisters as hostage. On the 16th April a messenger arrived with the news that a certain Asante tribe had marched to Kwahu in order to join the Kwahus in an attack on Akim. On hearing the news of the fighting at Akease (this came on the 19th April) the women were sent to Akwapim, and the men went into military order. The missionaries sent some of their valuables to Accra. There were 12 Asantes in the block in Kibi. The first Asante to be killed had been captured in Kukurantumi.
