"Schmid to Basel"

Report of his first quarter's work in the Boarding School. In spite of a special attempt to advertise the school and attract pupils there was very little response. Of the 16 pupils be inherited one stayed away (Darefo from Tweneduruawe). A further 11 were registered - most of these had previously been at the Bepong or Abetifi town schools. The excuses given by chiefs etc. for the small number of boys they were prepared to send were the same as usual - Schmid attacks nephew inheritance as one more mechanism making it difficult for children to attend school. You have to get the consent of the senior uncle as well as the parents.
