Shah Jahan (5 January 1592 – 22 January 1666) the fifth Mughal Emperor of India ruled India between 1628 to 1658. He was deposed by his son Aurnagazeb. and confined to the Agra fort. It is said that he died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony where he could view the mausoleum (Taj Mahal) he built for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, His favourite daughter Jehanara was well loved and respected by the family and court and remained at her father’s side and remained the bridge between her father and her brother Aurangazeb (sixth Mughal Emperor).

Should read 'Bishop of the Marthoma..' 'Mar Thoma' means Saint Thomas in Syriac. Saint Thomas Christians (Nasranis) originated in Kerala, South India as it is said that St. Thomas, the disciple of Jesus (doubting Thomas) landed in 52 AD and established more than 7 churches in Kerala. The St. Thomas Christians followed the Syrian rites of worship by 4th century and hence these Christians were also called Syrian Christians. With Anglican ritual influence following the British colonisation of India, a reformist group split from the original group around 1889 forming the Marthoma Syrian Church. So the bishop on the left is from the Marthoma Syrian church.

This photo is captioned "The Chief of Nasia" but the identical photo labeled QD-32.008.0066 states that it is the chief of Boyeni (Boayini). However, the dates on the original show that this Nasia image was taken February 28th and the following image D-30.54.036 was taken March 1st. One could infer that Dr. Fisch visited Nasia first and then passed through Boayini the following day on his way to Langbinsi.
