This volume, which in size is not different from its immediate predecessors (C-1.45, C-1.43 etc), is organised in the following sections: Malabar District (38 documents); Cannanore (15); Tellicherry (34); Chombala (7); Calicut (30); Kodakal (8); Palghat (21); Nilgiris (29). Each section has an index in which each item is given a caption. Selected interesting captions taken from the section indexes: Malabar District 7 & 20, papers on the selection of one Chrysostomus for the Malabar Middle School Malabar District 23 & 31 on a discussion about the boundaries of Basel Mission work to the south and south-east. Malabar District 11, 25-29 and 37 on questions of caste and the Kudumi (pigtail). Cannanore 1 on Hindu festivals in Etshurkottam, Pattuwam and Talip; Cannanore 7 on festivals in Madienkulam and Nilishweram; Cannanore 4 on other festivals; Calicut 13 on a festival in Coilandy. Cannanore 6 [translated extracts presumably] from the diaries of the travelling preacher Abraham Mulil. Life-histories of three christians, Nehemia, Kaleb and Bilha (Cannanore 10), life-history of a middle school pupil John Puttenwidu (Tellicherry 2) and of a Christian, Eliezer (Calicut 22). There has been a rebellion among the pupils of the Middle School (Tellicherry 28). On BM industry in Calicut: Calicut 6 & 7; on the regulations about apprentices 11 & 27; 17 on how things are going in the Weaving Shop. Kodakal 1, 2, 3 & 5 on the building of a new church. Palghat 4 & 5 on contacts to a Leipzig missionary in Coimbatore. Palghat 11 on a cholera epidemic, and on the life of David Kandappen who died in it. Palghat 6 & 14, Diez’ Quarterly Reports are an analysis of why the mission is growing so slowly in Palghat. Nilgiris 1, 7, 10 16 are early reports on his work in India by Johannes Hesse ("My time as an apprentice has begun"). Nilgiris 2, a description of a Badaga festival involving fire-walking. Nilgiris 6, a Nilagiri missionary’s impressions of Tulunad. Nilgiris 11, Metz on the Todas. Nilgiris 20: the opening of a boarding school in Keti and its daily programme. Nilgiris 21: report by Johannes Hesse on a journey from Keti via Calicut to Bangalore and Mysore. Nilgiris 24 & 27: on the life and death of the Evangelist Abraham Nerkambe.
